Flannel Jelly Roll Race Lap Quilt

Flannel lap quilt made and finished December 2012. On a whim I had purchased a Moda flannel jelly roll. I did not know what to do with it at the time. I thought it would be excellent to use for a Jelly Roll Race quilt. The backing is a flannel sheet, batting is cotton. I free motion quilted this quilt with large stylized oak leaves.

Fabulous Felines for a Fabulous Daughter in Law

The title of this quilt says it all. It was made for my feline loving daughter in law because she and my son were always fighting over the couch quilt made for my son. The block centers are from a Laurel Burch Fabulous Felines panel and the block logs are from the coordinating fabrics. The backing is flannel, and the batting is cotton. It was a challenge to use the blocks from the panel because they were not true squares. So I decided to do a "wonky" log cabin style using the quilt as you go method. I outline quilted around the cat faces and stitched in the ditch the logs. FYI, the print strips in the borders were to cover some mistakes. That is Leroy in the picture, a quilt inspector in training. He loves cats!

Comfy Flannel Lap Quilt, Scrappy

The center of this lap quilt was a flannel thrift store find and already sewn together. The border fabrics are left over flannel scraps from previous quilt backings. The backing is made from left over flannel cut into 2 1/2 strips and sewn together using the Jelly Roll Race method. Batting is cotton. This quilt is free motion quilted. This quilt resides on the recliner.

Blue Diamonds Lap Quilt, Scrappy

 This is a 48" x 58" lap quilt made from left over 4.5" squares left over from previous projects. The backing is a thrift store sheet, batting is cotton.  The squares are set on point and then framed with 2 borders. The quilt is free motion quilted.

Dusky Grouse Quilt, aka Prairie Chicken. The pattern was designed by Nancy Harcourt of Prairie Queen Pattern Company. It is a "scrappy" quilt made completely from my fabric stash. The backing fabric is good Portuguese flannel sheets purchased from Goodwill. The batting is cotton. I used the Quilt As You Go method to construct the blocks. The quilting is Free Motion Quilting using my Singer 15-91, HQ Sweet Sixteen quilting machine and Elna 7300 Quilting Queen Pro. I relied on Leah Day's book, 365 Free Motion Quilting Designs, for quilting inspiration.

This quilt ended up being 120"x108", an extra large queen sized as I added a plain black pillow tuck at the top because I did not want to make 5 more Grouse blocks. It was not a good day for outdoor pictures. And it was difficult to find a place to hang such a large quilt. The arbor in front of the green house was pressed into service.

Overall this is one of my favorite quilts to complete. The QAYG method was a challenge because it was the first time I had used it and I chose to use cornerstones in the sashings.

Magic Squares quilt top made with Batik fabrics for my son Kurt in March of 2011. It has since been quilted and sent to him. The pattern was designed by Helen Knott.

Orca Bay Mystery Quilt

Last fall I decided to join Bonnie Hunter's Orca Bay Mystery Quilt project.This is my first mystery quilt. It did use of up some of my scrap stash. I was ever so glad when it was finished, soo many little pieces and soo busy. I eliminated the flying geese borders and added solid black and a black print border to make it fit a full sized bed.

Summer Bright Quilt

This quilt started out as a test block. The motif fabric was a sheet purchased from my favorite thrift store. I used every scrap of the motif fabric to complete the last block on the bottom left. It is the second quilt free motion quilted on my HQ Sweet Sixteen quilting machine.

A Rock Concert T-Shirt Quilt

The quilting design is large and small guitars and was quilted on our HQ Sweet Sixteen. The owner of the quilt chose the colors for the sashing between the blocks.

Denim Rag Quilt

This queen size quilt was made for my bed. I have three labrador retrievers who really believe in their comfort. My bed is their first choice for comfort, the couch is second best. Leroy the blond labs sheds like crazy and his hair shows up everywhere. I figured I would make a quilt that was indestructible and this rag quilt fits the bill. I love it for the bed because I actually vacuum it to remove the dog hair. That is Leroy's head on the right top of the picture.

The back of the quilt is flannel that I purchased a long time ago. This quilt is very heavy and was quite a challenge to wrestle it when sewing the block rows together. It has not been to the laudromat as of yet. That chore will have to wait till May or June. My washing machine can't handle a heavy load like this quilt.

Seminole Pieced Baby Quilt

This is one of my favorite quilts. It was made using the Seminole Piecing method, machine pieced and hand quilted. The quilt was made for my Granddaughter, Tiffany, about 20 years ago. I did not think to make a quilt label then. Even I can't remember the exact year. But I do know that it was made to be a baby quilt. Yep, a very non traditional baby quilt!

Double Wedding Ring Quilt

I started this king sized double wedding ring quilt when I moved to Washington State in 1993 and decided to finish the piecing this last summer. Yep, an eighteen year WIP (work in progress). It is machine pieced. Once the piecing was finished I decided that I wanted to hand quilt each of the centers with a different design motif based on hearts. Guess what? I am still working on it. My color choices are quite different than most Wedding Ring Quilts but I am not a "pastel person".  As of September 2013, it is still a WIP. Silly me, I wanted a different design quilted in the centers. About 1/4 of the centers are hand quilted. Due to rheumatoid arthritis I am no longer able to hand quilt and may ending up machine the remaining centers.

Super Bowl Mystery Quilt

This is a quilt top I worked on during the 2012 Super Bowl. The design and instructions were on the Quilting Board. The finished top is approximately 48 x 55 inches. I am going to add more borders to make it bigger. Lonesome our black Labrador thinks more black would be nice. And Tango the "Quilt Inspector" test drove the top before I finished it.

Folklorica Quilt

I fell in love with the Folklorica fabrics from In The Beginning fabrics. The fabric line came in a panel plus coordinating fabrics. The layout and design for this quilt is my own. The quilting was done by Charisma of Charisma's Corner, Ephrata, WA. The "quilt inspector" is Tango. She loves fabric!

Corduroy Squares Quilt

This is a corduroy squares quilt I made for my Great Grandson, Jaydon. The cord squares are all from skirts and left over fabrics that I used to make the skirts for my mother. The backing is flannel that I purchased many years ago to line sleeping bags, finally found a use for it.

Kingyo Quilt

I thought that I would start posting pictures of our previous completed quilts. This is a quilt I made for my son and his wife last year. The center panel is titled Kingyo and is by Red Rooster Fabrics. I originally purchased the panel as a kit then added my own outer borders to make a queen size quilt. I did not quilt it myself but sent it to a local long arm quilter for quilting. I was very disappointed in the work she did. Now all of my quilts that I send out for quilting go to Charisma's Corner in Ephrata, WA. Her quilting is absolutely gorgeous and always enhances the quilt.

This is a Harley T-shirt quilt that Krista completed in November. It is king sized and she used 20 t-shirt backs as requested by the customer.
